Graphic Designers (Telecommute, but see details)

My company is working on a web site redesign for a client in NYC and we are looking to bring in local graphic designers to act as members of our project team. The client is a highly visible, highly relevant organization in the area whose site currently gets a large volume of traffic. Our job is to take the site to the next level to help them meet the needs of their core audience.

The end product will be a valuable portfolio piece for everyone involved.

As a graphic designer, you will be responsible for the following:

- Working with our Information Architect and Project Manager to conduct a full definition and design process which includes concept, scoping, wireframing, mock ups, design treatments and the production of functional HTML interfaces.

- Creating engaging, distinctive graphic designs which will serve as the basis for a comprehensive user interface on a high-profile web site that makes use of a full range of interactive and multimedia features.

- Working with our technical team to understand the possibilities and limitations of the underlying technology, and offering creative input on various aspects of the interface going beyond simple layouts. Our goal is to make this site an incredible experience for users.

You should:

- Be a great designer.

- Have the ability to articulate the reasons behind specific design decisions to ensure understanding amongst a multidisciplinary project team to cultivate consensus on approach.

- Be comfortable interacting with the client's senior leadership staff, helping them to make informed decisions about specific design approaches. They are good people to know for a lot of reasons.

- Live and work in NYC or thereabouts, preferably in Brooklyn, and be available for design meetings on-site during normal business hours a minimum of one day a week for the first couple months of the project.

- Have your own gear and be able to stay productive working without supervision. Good communication is key to the success on this project.

This is a contractual position that includes approximately 8 - 12 weeks of work starting in August. You will be well compensated for your time, preferably at a flat rate which can be agreed upon after conducting a preliminary review of the requirements. Hourly rates are acceptable as well, but we are looking for people who will be there throughout the life of the project. At the conclusion of the project, we will be making offers to people where there is a good organizational fit.

Please respond with your portfolio, links to any active web sites you designed, and your availability for an interview. Strong preference will be given to candidates who are culturally literate about life in Brooklyn and capable of expressing it in their work.

About Us:

My company is an established Internet strategy and technology consulting firm based some number of miles south and west of NYC. Our workforce is distributed geographically across the globe, primarily in North America but stretching as far away as Australia and Eastern Europe, and we are heavily involved in emerging trends in social networking and online communities. We are very professional, have a lot of fun, and do many of the other things you would expect to hear about what companies do. We try to keep quiet about who we are working with until sites are ready to launch, hence the anonymity, but are more than willing to share the details with people applying for this position.
