Technical Writer II -- 540
Johnson Controls seeks a Technical Writer II to write, revise and deliver process documentation for its data centers and “uninterrupted power supply” services and systems. This will be a temporary assignment, lasting between 6 and 12 months.
Responsibilities include:
1. Ensures documentation is consistent with established formats and writing standards.
2. Develops accurate and clear technical documentation that represents Johnson Controls and customer-specific workflow and functions by:
•Operating software when accessible.
•Obtaining and incorporating operator and customer information via participation, interviews, note-taking, monitoring, and/or usability tests.
•Attending internal training.
•Reading available documentation, including technical and marketing specifications and requirements.
•Participating in engineering project team meetings.
3. Notifies JCI customers of process documentation updates regarding critical milestones and safety issues.
4. Ensures the project documentation content accurately and effectively supports the processes, testing the documentation against the employee’s testing and manager/customer workflow notes, for accuracy and validity.
5. Submits documents for review by Engineering, Program and Process Management, Operations, Editors, peer writers and other project team members.
6. Completes assigned documentation within schedule to achieve quality and timeliness objectives of the project.
7. Stays abreast of and learns and applies emerging software and technologies that support the improvement and delivery of technical documentation.
8. Performs other duties related to producing technical documentation as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, a similar technical field or equivalent experience.
2. Minimum of four years of technical writing experience.
3. Excellent writing, editing, analytical and organizational skills.
4. Ability to understand and write clearly about complex, sophisticated technical topics.
5. Ability to work independently in a team environment.
6. General Information Technology (IT) knowledge including terminology and general networking concepts desired.
