An interactive sports Web portal is looking for freelance journalists to cover the local (Atlanta) high school prep basketball scene and college teams during the 2008-2009 basketball season.
The freelance sports journalist is responsible for researching, developing, investigating and writing a variety of sports news stories through interviews, observation and library and/or online resources. The journalist will determine tone and intended audience of story. Must investigate and determine the validity of news story leads. May be involved in special assignments and investigative reporting. The ideal candidate will have (or working towards) a bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or a related field and some experience in print and/or broadcast journalism. Applicants must have knowledge of AP style and computers, creativity, flexibility of schedule, good teamwork skills and a positive attitude. Must also be able to multitask and show an affinity for sports and delivering breaking news accurately. The sports journalist will report to the Sports Editor.
