Executive Editor (Online) for New Website (Freelance, New York, NY)
Title: Executive Online Editor with Social Media Chops Company: Major Global Media Company Location: New York Type: Freelance to Direct-Hire Duration: Three-month engagement; permanent role very possible
Overview: Our client is building a category-busting new online magazine around an impressive and progessive voice within the Christian community. This global media company is aiming to present faith, spirtuality, inspiration, and action in an entirely different way... and that's why the beloved brand has turned to The Hired Guns.
They need a game-changing Executive Editor to lead the genesis of an ambitious companion site and blog, activate citizen journalists, and develop a social networking site (think Facebook for Christians) that will be fundamentally different than anything out there today. One of the top design shops in NYC is already building the platform, so things are in motion.
Gun Profile: The right Gun is skilled in managing large editorial teams, has extensive online experience, and has the initiative and focus required to work in a dynamic upstart within a large global company. Social media prowess and experience developing blogs are also key.
You should have a strong understanding about how to get users flocking to a site -- with a full range comments, contests, polls, photos, and clever widgets. And you must be ready and imaginative enough to translate these features to a community site devoted to Christians.
Nitty Gritty: As the Executive Editor, you'll be responsible for developing original, site-specific content, managing stringers, and adapting articles from the companion magazine to make them Web-appropriate. A big chunk of your day will be culling and curating additional web content and blogs in order to make the site more robust -- so pace, tempo, and agile editing are all must-haves in order for you to succeed in this role. Once the site is established, you'll be supervising three or four junior editors.
Bottom line, you will have a strong imprint on the overall design -- even marketing -- of the site.
Inside Skinny: Knowing Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are not the Beatles is kind of key for this one.
Net-Net: This is a three-month contract to start, with a strong possibility of going full-time for the right superstar. Are you the answer to our prayers?! Get us your resume and a specific cover letter ASAP!
How to Apply: Email a cover letter (required) with your most recent resume attached to christiansitegig@thehiredguns.com. (Please do not reply to this email.) The cover letter should detail your experience relevant to this opportunity and include the reasons for your interest in the position.
