A premiere food/restaurant magazine publishing in Atlanta is looking for accomplished writers. We are seeking individuals who have published in the culinary field and know Atlanta very well. Writers should have a knowledge of the personalities, events, trends, restaurants, and food news in their local market, as well as the ability to communicate in a coherent, timely manner. There are three assignment tiers within the magazine, and availability of each is dependent on the issue we are publishing. The assignments are:
Restaurant write-ups: 150-250 word profiles of Atlanta restaurants. Writers will be expected to do some background research and call the restaurant to write accurate and compelling profiles. Visiting the restaurant is beneficial but not necessary.
Feature story sidebars: 200-500 word profiles of Atlanta restaurants, shops, farms, and other food-related locales. These will tie into a feature story, and so will revolve around a theme. Narrative format is generally the rule, and excellent quotes are an absolute necessity.
Feature stories: 800-1,200 words. These stories will appear prominently in the magazine, run in multiple markets, and offer interesting, exciting copy informing our readership of a timely issue or trend in the culinary world. Recent examples of our features include a story of the role of bluefin tuna in the ever-growing world of sushi, a journey through the Southern U.S. and its culinary traditions, and an in-depth look at the recent trend of biodynamic wines.
Good writers who provide excellent and accurate copy in a timely manner will have the opportunity to move up from basic restaurant write-ups to sidebars to national features. Depending on experience, writers may begin with more involved assignments.
Payment is market competitive per word and based on type of specific assignment, publishing experience, and length of time with our publication
If you are interested, please submit a resume with two published writing samples—food-related if possible. In your cover letter, please let us know what your local market is and if you have any areas of expertise in the culinary world.
