Job ID: 0107400708001 Description: CBS Interactive (formerly CNET Networks) is seeking an Editorial Intern to work within the Games, Music & Lifestyle group on the launch of a new music website. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about online editorial promotion and marketing, while working with leading music industry editors and interactive media brands.
The Editorial Intern will be responsible for building online visibility for our new music website. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and a keen understanding of online communities; ideally this is someone who loves and understands popular music and how people discuss it on the web. The core responsibilities of the job center around external link building campaigns, online viral marketing and social networking while becoming a true online brand evangelist for our music initiatives.
Required Skills:
· Strong written communication skills. Someone who exhibits the ability to communicate concisely and clearly and with a variety of different audiences, and is able to tailor their writing style to suit appropriate communities.
· An understanding of the internet and especially social networking sites and applications and the ethos of communicating within those environments. This includes, but is not limited to, blogs, forums, social networks, social bookmarking sites, entertainment news sites, and more.
· Creativity, ability to proactively develop an online/viral marketing strategy (with guidance) and come up with new ideas for online brand-building on the fly.
· Coursework in marketing, journalism, communications, or English.
· A love of popular music in all its forms.
Responsibilities:
· Routinely visit web communities to help promote new music website content.
· Build external link popularity for the new site, by promoting the site to relevant, interested parties across the internet.
· Participate in online music communities and participate in regular discussions, promoting content from the new music site whenever appropriate, but also truly becoming embedded in the community to build credibility (i.e., not just creating a bunch of spam, but becoming an active participant).
· Track the success of all of the initiatives and revise strategy continually based on learnings.
· Ad hoc assignments as they relate to the search engine optimization (SEO) programs for other CBS Interactive games, entertainment, and lifestyle properties.
· Become a true online brand evangelist for the CBS Interactive Games, Entertainment, and Lifestyle properties.
This is a paid internship in our San Francisco office at 15 hours per week for 3-6 months. The internship will start in late September.
