Experienced Writers for Book Series

Is your writing both informative and entertaining? Could you answer the following questions in 200 to 500 words of smart, snappy, and authoritative narrative?
• What is the tastiest part of the human body for cannibals?
• How much wood can a woodchuck chuck?
• Can men prolong sex by thinking about baseball?
• Why is it okay to be a daddy’s girl but not a momma’s boy?

A Chicago-based publisher is seeking contract writers for a series of F.Y.I. books in a question-and-answer format. The books will address a wide variety of topics, ranging from body science to weird science, the animal kingdom to earth and space, love and lust to origins and traditions, and people to sports. These are mass-market books designed to appeal to a broad adult audience.

Our writers must be able demystify urban legends and inform on everything from the strange to the sublime. The prose should be lively, fun, and entertaining—we’re not looking for an academic approach—but it also must be informative and fact-based.

If you have a proven track record as a writer—we are not looking for beginners—please submit a cover letter and résumé, and a writing sample that matches the style we are seeking. Writers whom we select will be provided with a question and asked to submit a test article. (Please be familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style.) We pay a set fee for each article, based on an average submission of 350 words.
