We need professional writers—no beginners, please—for a book project with the working title “100 Things Every American Should Know.” The tentative chapter headings include: Civics, Culture, Geography, People, Money, and Beyond the Borders. The entries will average 400 to 500 words. Compensation is negotiable.
The book will take on a direct, concise, and authoritative tone. We want writers who can put life into a topic and break down an issue into easy-to-understand text. If you write in an encyclopedic style, you are not right for this project.
You will be writing for Publications International, Ltd., a Chicago-based book and magazine publisher that has been doing business since the 1960s, as a work-for-hire independent contractor. Publications International will own all rights to all work you are paid to provide the company.
Qualified candidates should provide professional credentials, a work sample, and three to five suggested articles for our book. Selected writers will be asked to submit a test article on one of their suggested topics. (We pay for test articles if accepted for publication.) If we like you and you like us after the test, we’ll set a schedule of work and deadlines. Please be able to incorporate Chicago Manual of Style into your writing.
