An established contemporary artist in Milwaukee, WI is looking for someone with expertise in art sales and marketing to introduce her art to the Chicago market. The artist intimately knows and understands the merchandise mart and has previously sold her art to many of Chicago's elite. The artist already has her own gallery in downtown Milwaukee and her art is displayed in a prominent Milwaukee restaurant and a large, high-end home furnishings boutique. The artist works in a unique contemporary abstract style, doing paintings primarily, but also some furniture and glassware.
The candidate will be responsible for developing an aggressive marketing plan, targeting restaurants, interior design firms, public spaces, commercial and business offices, hotels, and residential clients. Professional photography, website, and gallery already in place-- it's up to you to put together a marketing plan and materials and make a connection with the Chicago audience. The goal is to get the artwork placed and recognized in as short of a period of time as possible.
The ideal candidate is based in the Chicago area with 10+ years in art sales and marketing and/or interior design. Relevant work experience that shows breadth and knowledge of the Chicago design world at large will be looked at closely. ASID membership a major plus. Professional contacts (client list) will be essential to be successful in this position. Must have at least Bachelor's degree and demonstrate relevant experience. MUST be able to speak intelligently about contemporary art, thus, this is NOT exclusively a sales and marketing position. Candidate must be self-starting and have strong people skills. This position would be ideal for someone already in a full or part time position who desires extra income. Some travel to Milwaukee will be necessary. The gallery is approximately 1.5 hours northeast suburbs of Chicago, or 2 hours from The Loop.
COMPENSATION WILL BE STRICTLY COMMISSION BASED. Candidate will receive generous commission for all resulting Chicago sales. You sell art to a Chicago restaurant and it sells? You get commission. Some small paintings and glassware sell in the $275-600 range, but the strength of her collection lies in her larger paintings that range from $1200-$10,800
To apply, please send your resume and letter of interest explaining 1) why you are qualified for this position and 2) your sales experience.
